Straight-arm shoulder elevation with heavy dumbbells — direct upper-trap strength for posture and carries.

Setup
Stand tall with a heavy dumbbell in each hand at your sides, arms straight, chest proud.
How to do it
- Lift the shoulders straight up toward the ears as high as they go.
- Pause one second at the top — really squeeze.
- Lower with control to a full hang between reps.
- Arms stay straight — they are hooks, not lifters.
Common mistakes
- Rolling the shoulders in a circle (adds nothing, irritates the joint).
- Bending the elbows to nudge the weight higher.
- Cutting the range short with weights too heavy to control.
Scale it
Easier: Lighter weights, or seated shrugs.
Harder: Heavier load with a 2-second top hold, or add a slow eccentric.
