Filming a Form Check

Form Analysis measures how you run from a short video: every foot contact filmed side-on is found and measured, and anything outside the ranges most runners sit in is flagged for you and your coach to look at. The whole thing rests on the clip, so here is how to film one that measures well.

The Clip

• Side on, hip height - Phone on a tripod or propped on something, level, about 3 metres to your side. The camera does not move; you run past it (or on a treadmill in front of it).
• About 10 seconds of steady running - Ten seconds gives a dozen foot contacts, which is all an analysis needs. A longer clip costs more and adds little past a dozen contacts, so trim to the running section.
• 60 fps at 1080p, normal speed - Foot contact lasts about a fifth of a second; 60 frames per second sees it, 30 mostly misses it. No slow motion, no filters.
• Whole body in frame the whole time - Head to toes with a little room. If your feet leave the frame, those contacts are not measured.
• Fitted clothing, even light - Baggy shorts and long loose layers hide the joints. Avoid strong backlight.

What It Costs

Each clip is measured on our servers and spends Fit PA tokens from your monthly allowance by its length: about 4,000 tokens for the 10-second clip the guide asks for. The page shows the cost of the exact file you choose before anything is uploaded, and a clip that cannot be analyzed is never charged. Form Analysis is part of the Pro plans.

Uploading

Go to Form Analysis in the main menu, tell us the grade (flat, uphill, downhill) and surface if you know them, and drop the video on the upload area. Analysis takes about a minute for a 10-second clip; the page opens the result on its own, and your coach posts a short summary in chat when it is ready.
